What eye-opening experiences can you share as the parent of a gifted child?

  1. How helping having my daughter take the SAT in 7th grade would be - it helped me see more of her true potential and areas where I (and the school system) could offer her more challenges. ~Bev

  2. It is astounding to have child that achieves academic sucess, but is unable to remember to clean their room. How can someone "teach" "common sense"? Many times, we feel alone when we hear how well our child does in school but "pushes" buttons at home. Anyone else feel this way?

  3. Absolutely! It seems like they excel either in book sense or common sense, rarely both. My child drives us to the brink of insanity with her "flightiness" and lack of respect. We feel that it is imprtant to get those important life lessons in early in her life.

  4. know just what you mean about lack of common sense. My daughter is very responsible with homework, etc. but is also quite "flighty". I wonder how much of that is because she is also quite distractable because there are many different things that catch her attention and following up on her original task is harder because it is long gone in her mind - she's on to the next thing that interests her. Does that make any sense? I wonder if this is also a gifted trait.

  5. My daughter is the same way and it sometimes drives me nuts! I don't know what to do to help her stay focused. I try to remind myself that I was the same way and still am to an extent. :) Lauri
