Summer Science Program - deadline November 5

The Virginia Aerospace Science and Technology Scholars (VASTS) program is an interactive on-line science, technology, engineering and mathematics learning experience highlighted by a seven-day residential summer academy at NASA Langley Research Center in Hampton. Students selected to participate are immersed in NASA-related research through interaction with scientists, engineers and technologists.

Who can apply?

•Be a U.S. Citizen and Virginia resident
•Be currently in their junior year of high school and at least 16 years of age
•Have interest in or an aptitude for math, science, engineering, or technology
•Have a minimum GPA of 2.7
•Commit to a one-year relationship with VASTS, including a designated six-day residential Summer Academy experience
•Have access to email and the Internet (home, school, or public library)

Do you have a writer or artist in your house?

Young Writers Workshop at Shenandoah University on Saturday, November 6 from 9:00 am - 1:00 pm. The workshop is $40 and there is some scholarship money available for students who have need. Grades 5-12. For more information contact call the Project office at 703-993-1168, or email Erin Hubbard at youngwriters-valley@hotmail.com. Registration deadline is October 25.

Parents are invited to attend a free workshop on supporting your young writer. There is also a 90 minute writing class for parents.($15 fee)
